An artist I believe is on the edge of glory. Already well known in Ireland and England, Internationally he is now starting to making an name for himself amongst the galleries of Europe.
Mark Eldred was born in Hong Kong in 1964.In 1965 his family returned to England. He was fortunate enough to have spent the first 18 years of his life living in the remarkably beautiful area of rural
Norfolk in England. His family home was
surrounded by rivers, millponds and waterfalls where Mark spent his childhood. After leaving school he went to Goldsmiths Art College in London to study fine art. He received his Bachelor of Art honors degree for landscape and portrait painting and photography. He then left England and travelled for four years through Asia, Australia and New Zealand. During this time Mark spent much time living in the rain forests of these
countries where the wildness and beauty of the enormous diversity of the landscape had a
profound impact on him and to this day has given him endless inspiration for his paintings.
On returning to England and using a motor caravan as his base, Mark travelled throughout Norfolk painting and sketching the tranquil landscapes of this area working towards a solo exhibition in the city of Norwich and a group show in London.
Mark then came to Ireland for a holiday in 1992 and he was so inspired by the unspoilt, natural beauty of the landscape, that he decided to make it his home. He now lives in Glenflesk, near Killarney, with his wife Jean and his two children Jasmine and Thea.
He has spent the last 18 years passionately painting the Irish landscape and is continuously inspired by the richness and diversity of this part of the world. His paintings reflect this diversity, ranging from waterfalls, forests, bogs, seascapes, mountains and lakes.
